FUEL12 Day 2 AM Recap

A-Town A-List was the FUEL12 houseband and they rocked the house. Dustin Ahkoui emceed the event with help from Stevsn Sheets. But more from them tomorrow. Our second day started with Kyle Idleman, our guest speaker. He took center stage and shared with us the purpose of his book, not a fan. not a fan examines Luke 9:23 word by word and looks at what it truly means to daily follow Christ.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow.”

Applying this verse to student ministry was simple. Kyle stated that “You cannot lead students where you are not going” challenging all 230+ of us to take our walk with God to the next level. He closed the morning session by giving us this daunting statement: “What you win them with is what you win them too”. Meaning that if we attract students with shallow/flashy products we will win them to a shallow/flashy faith. If we attract students with authenticity and discipleship, we will help create a sincere faith focused on serving the Lord. What a challenge!

Kyle Idleman also shared with us in our afternoon session. Here he talked more directly about ministry and what he has learned from his experiences. We all will remember his “Finding Nemo” story and how sometimes our perspective is all out of whack and God simply sits back and laughs at us. We addressed issues some of us face such as 1.) being discouraged by a lack of progress and 2.) dealing with draining people. One stumbling block in progress and ministry Kyle pointed out was vocabulary. “Is everyone in your church using the same vocabulary for discipleship?” I thought this was a great question for churches and ministries to ask as it unites a church and gets everyone on the same page. We concluded this session by looking at strategies for making disciples.

Check back tomorrow as I finish recapping FUEL12 with the final sessions from Friday night!
